To view the list of available maps to display, expand the Maps panel on the left hand side of the screen (if not already done). You will be presented with different types (Categories) and the respective listing of Maps. Select the desired map and it will display the relevant maps.
Selecting the option 'Hold current view' will keep any newly displayed maps in the same location that you are currently viewing. To use this option place a tick in the check box before selecting a new map.
To view an element from the key, place a tick in box that appears alongside the item name, then select the button. The same can be done for Imagery and the Background Map segment. Hiding each item is achieved by removing the tick in a box and then selecting the button. The button, will hide all the items listed in the Map Layers segment and the button, will display all the items listed in the Map Layers segment.
Each item listed in the Map Layers segment of the Key is accompanied by an image which
represents the corresponding items on the map. The presence of a check box) allows you to reveal and hide information presented in the currently
displayed map. When there is a
(padlock) you
cannot hide/reveal that item in the list. The
image represents that an item in the Map
Layers segment carries sub-Information (Filters). Additionally, for the sake of
simplicity, an image that resembles a camera (
) represents the imagery that you can display.
This imagery can range from Aerial photography to Historical pictures of a region.
Items displayed on the map (in relation to the Key) may contain additional information that may be of interest. To view those details, right click on the relevant part of the map. If there are any other items in that part of the map, they will also show. For example, one item can represent Council Tax and right clicking on it will bring up details regarding Council Tax such as the Tax Band for that item. The resulting details will be displayed in a heads up display, such as the diagram below:
As you can see in the diagram there was more information in that area of the map to do with Council Demographics (London Wards) and its details are listed along with the details of Council Tax.
There are a variety of ways to move around the currently displayed map. One way is using the Navigation tool.
Selecting an arrow will nudge the map in the direction that the arrow is pointing. Selecting the inside arrow will change the current view of the map to what was showing previously. Another way is by using the Toolbar:
Select this button to change the current view of the map to a pre-defined view.
Select this button to Zoom In to the current view by a factor of 2.
Select this button to Zoom Out from the current view by a factor of 2.

Right-clicking on the map will bring up a menu which provides alternative access to the options listed above.
This menu is shown on the left.
Zoom in here: The map will zoom in to where the mouse was right-clicked by a factor of two
Zoom out here: As above, but outwardly
Centre map here: Recentres the map view to where the mouse was clicked
Change map zoom: Brings up the dialogue box to change the current scale of the map
Highlight this point: Allows you to add a place holder to the map of where the mouse was
clicked. There is no limit to how many place holders you can have on the map.
Show information: If you have right-clicked on a feature this will display any information
relevant to that feature.
Due to the large number of features in the mapping software, the features have been quantified into "panels" and "tabs" on the left hand side of the screen.
In this fashion the screen will not overflow with too much information.
To manage each feature they have been quantified into three "tabs": Maps, Search and Tasks.
The Maps tab allows you to browse maps through different categories and view the relevant Information (Key). The Search tab allows you to perform different types of searching: by address, by information presented on the map, nearest information from a point.
When the panel is expanded the image on the left hand side of the title will change to
. Clicking on the title again will
close the panel. When the panel is closed the image on the left hand side will change to
.
Another element to this interface, is that information is shown in some form of heads up display, as shown in the Map Information section (above).
These HUDs (or "floating panels"), can be closed or expanded by
clicking on the image to the left of the title area (
and
). Clicking on
will close the HUD. You can move each HUD by clicking and dragging the title area.
Additionally you can move the Navigation and Scale panels. The
Navigation panel can also be expanded and closed.
